Birds of a Feather Flock Together
Recap: NET Crane Bus Trip 2008
[Read more…]
Nearly 50 birders boarded a bus bound for the Rowe Sanctuary near Grand Island to take in the amazing sights of the annual Sandhill crane migration on Friday, April 4. The group enjoyed dinner, a Producer's Talk by Crane Song documentary producer Perry Stoner, a presentation by Wesleyan University ornithologist Jackie Canterbury and more than two hours in a blind viewing the cranes as they flew in to roost on the river for the night. The trip was offered as a pledge premium during NET Television's recent membership drive in March.
"The weather was spectacular, and the sunset was absolutely beautiful," said NET Membership Director Jenny Herstein. "Our timing was perfect – the experts at the Rowe Sanctuary thought the birds might be leaving on Saturday with the warm wind coming in. So we were able to see the birds just in time, and even got an up-close look at them."
Here are a few snapshots from the trip
