The NET Inspire Nebraska Campaign

The NET Foundation for Television and Radio is pleased to launch the Inspire Nebraska Campaign, which will raise $25 million in membership and endowment support by 2012. The Campaign is led by Co-Chairs James Seacrest, Lincoln philanthropist and former owner of Western Publishing Company in North Platte, and Ron Hull, longtime producer and advisor for NET. Honorary Co-Chairs for the Campaign are Dr. William Griffin and Sharon Marvin Griffin, of Omaha.

Rick Steves to Speak at Omaha's Joslyn Art Museum

NET, in partnership with Joslyn Art Museum, will host Rick Steves, host, writer, and producer of the PBS television show “Rick Steves Europe” on Monday, March 12 in Joslyn’s Witherspoon Concert Hall. His entertaining, illustrated lectureEurope Through the Back Doorwill explore tips on getting the most out of every mile, minute, and dollar on your next trip!

Program is free to the public.  Doors open to the public at 6:00 pm with a cash bar reception and special viewing of Joslyn’s European art galleries. Program begins at 7:00 pm.







New Planned Giving Site Offers Wealth of Gift-Planning Tools

When most people hear the words “planned giving,” they immediately think of bequests and wills. The NET Foundations recently launched a brand-new planned giving website to give you the tools and resources you need to learn about the benefits of making a planned gift. Nebraska Philanthropy: Investing in Our Future

In the latest episode, host Jeff Beckman talks with Omaha philanthropist Bruce Lauritzen, chair of the Board of First National Bank of Omaha. Lauritzen’s family business has made a significant investment in downtown Omaha by the funding of the Spirit of Wilderness Galleries bronze sculptures that populate multiple blocks of down Omaha.

The 30-minute program celebrates the philanthropic spirit of the late Johnny Carson, whose generosity and comedic legacy has been honored the past four years in Norfolk during The Great American Comedy Festival that fosters the emerging talents of young comedians across the nation. And Beckman explores the philanthropic community in Norfolk which has enhanced the quality of life in much of the northeastern region of the state.

Shukree Hassan Tilghman, a 29-year-old African-American filmmaker, sets out on a cross-country campaign to end Black History Month. Through this thoughtful and humorous journey, he explores what the treatment of history tells us about race and equality in a “post-racial” America.Tilgman’s campaign to end Black History Month is actually a provocative gambit to open a public conversation about the idea of ethnic heritage months, and whether relegating African American history to the shortest month of the year — and separating it from American history on the whole — denigrates the role of black people and black culture throughout American history.

Not Your Garden-Variety Donor

As a longtime and loyal member of both NET Television and NET Radio, Kenneth Good particularly enjoyed NET Radio’s Big Band Spotlight, and the nightly news programs on NET Television. He bequeathed $10,000 to each organization’s permanent endowment, where it will support programming in perpetuity. Ken also supported several other organizations close to his heart. But what’s surprising is that even Ken’s closest friends didn’t know that he was a budding philanthropist.
